Best practices for clear, sharp photos:
Close-up: Focus on your pet's face or distinctive features
Lighting: Natural light is best — avoid harsh shadows
Focus: Pet looking at camera preferred, but any angle works
Variety: Multiple angles help us capture their personality
Avoid: Blurry, very dark, distant, or low-resolution photos

🕯️ When you're ready
PetSoul takes new memorials when you're ready.
No rush. Begin when you're ready — sketch in 2–3 days, framed memorial on your wall in 14. Or chat with our team first.
Q1My only photo is of the empty spot now — they're already gone. Or my photo is old / grainy. Will it still work?
+
Yes — even photos of the empty spot work. Many families come to us months or years after their pet has passed, with only one photo — sometimes just the chair, the cushion, the windowsill, without the pet in it. Our memorial artists will paint them back into the place using a face shot from any other photo you have (even an old phone snap). If you only have one imperfect photo, that works too.
Q2Can I have more than one pet in the memorial — multi-pet remembrance?
+
Yes — up to 5 pets in one Last Favorite Place memorial. Each additional pet is +$20 (covers extra composition + illustration time). They don't need to have passed at the same time — your memorial artist composites them gently into one reverent scene. Many families use this to honor a sibling pair, or to bring an earlier-passed companion into a more recent goodbye.
Q3What if I don't like the sketch or final illustration?
+
You get two approvals before we print: the pencil sketch (Day 2–3) and the final oil illustration (Day 8–10). At either stage you can request unlimited revisions, free — different pose, lighting, expression, composition. We take extra time on memorials and never pressure a reply.
Happiness Guarantee: Within 14 days of delivery, if your portrait doesn't match what you approved — or arrives damaged in transit — we'll free replacement, your choice. Note: because you sign off twice before printing, refunds aren't issued for "I changed my mind" after approval. Read full policy →
Q4I'd like it for the one-year anniversary / their birthday in heaven. Can you help with timing?
+
Standard delivery is 10–14 days total — we take a little extra time on memorials. For meaningful anniversary dates, add Priority Proof (+$15) to get your first sketch in 24h instead of 2–3 days, which gives you more breathing room on revisions. For dates under 10 days from order, chat with our team first — we'll talk through what's possible without rushing your artist. No pressure on your end.
Q5Do you ship internationally? Any extra fees?
+
Yes — we ship to 38 countries. US orders over $99 ship free; international shipping calculated at checkout (typically $18–$40 depending on size + destination). Buyer responsible for any import duties/VAT — these are usually 10–20% of order value in EU, AU, CA. See full shipping table →

"They kept the frosting on his nose."
"Charlie turned 5 in March. I made him a peanut-butter cake with one wobbly candle, sang him 'happy birthday' alone in the kitchen, and tried to take the photo with my phone in one hand. He sniffed the cake, got frosting smeared across his nose, and then just stared at it like he wasn't sure if it was for him. I caught the exact face — that 'is-this-for-me?' look — and the photo came out slightly blurry, with the candle flame flaring across the right side. I almost didn't send it in. I thought a 'real' portrait studio would clean up the frosting, smooth the candle glare, give me a calm posed dog. PetSoul did the opposite. The frosting stayed. The candle stayed. The 'is-this-for-me?' eyes stayed. Their artist sent the sketch on day 2 and asked: 'Want me to keep the smear?' I said yes. The framed canvas hangs above our kitchen counter where the cake was. Charlie walks past it every morning. He doesn't know it's him, but I do, and that's another year of perfect."

"My husband and I have spent the last six Christmas mornings unwrapping presents on the living-room rug while Luna — our 8-year-old Samoyed — has watched from her spot under the tree, wearing a red scarf I knit her the first Christmas we adopted her. The scarf has never fit quite right. It always tilts. Every photo I have of her under the tree has her looking at the camera with the scarf sliding off one shoulder. That's the photo I sent in. The morning light from the window was harsh — I was worried it would wash out her white fur in the painting. Our PetSoul artist diffused the flare into a soft amber glow without losing Luna's coat texture. And they kept the crooked scarf. They kept the slow-blink, half-asleep, 'why are you up this early' look. We unwrapped the framed canvas this past Christmas morning and Luna was still under the tree, scarf still crooked. She'll be there next year too. The painting will be too."

"Pepper is a tabby with strong opinions. Every Halloween for the last four years, my husband and I have put a tiny witch hat on her, sat her next to the carved pumpkin on our porch, and tried to take a photo. Every year she tolerates it for about 12 seconds before walking away. This year I caught it — hat sliding off one ear, pumpkin candle flickering against her whiskers, that exact 'I am letting you do this; I am not enjoying it' expression in her eyes. I sent it in as a joke, honestly. I wasn't sure 'Pepper in a witch hat' was a real Celebration moment. But the PetSoul artist took it seriously. They kept the lopsided hat. They kept the candle-flicker on her whiskers. They kept the 'I tolerate this' face. The framed Black canvas now hangs in our hallway. Every guest comments. Pepper still tolerates it."

Customers love that the Celebration portraits capture the SPECIFIC year — the candle count, the costume choice, the Christmas-morning expression — not generic. Many highlight PetSoul's watercolor turning party-chaos photos (frosting, motion blur, hat tilt) into framed celebration art. Two-stage approval praised. A few mention delivery slightly longer than the 10–14 day window during holiday season; one frame-damaged resolved fast.
Summary
Drawn from verified Celebration buyer reviews
Charlie's 5th birthday photo — peanut-butter frosting smeared on his nose, one wobbly candle, that "is-this-for-me?" face. Blurry, with candle flare across the right side. I asked: "Can you keep the smear?" The artist said yes. Hangs above our kitchen counter where the cake was. Another year of perfect.

"Christmas-morning tree-light caught perfectly."
Took the photo on Christmas morning — Daisy on the rug, wrapping paper everywhere, tree lights glowing behind her. Phone exposure was a mess, half-blown out, half-dark. The artist diffused the flare into a warm amber wash and kept her ginger fur exact. We unwrap this one every year now — it lives on the mantel from Dec 1.

"1-year Gotcha-Day gift for my husband. He didn't speak."
We adopted Bailey from a hoarding-case rescue exactly a year ago. I ordered this for our first Gotcha-Day anniversary as a surprise — picked a photo from his very first morning in the sun on our balcony. My husband opened it, didn't speak for two minutes, then sat down on the floor with Bailey. Worth every dollar.

"They kept the witch hat sliding off."
Buddy is a 70lb golden retriever who tolerates Halloween costumes for exactly the time it takes to take one photo. The witch hat was halfway off when I clicked the shutter. I told the artist: don't fix the hat. They didn't. The portrait is the costume sliding off, the slightly resigned eyes, the pumpkin glow on his fur. Best $129 for a 12×16 Black frame. Halloween mantel staple now.

"Pepper's 14th birthday — the last one we'll celebrate."
Pepper turned 14 in February. We knew it would probably be her last birthday. I baked her a small carrot-and-yogurt cake, lit one candle, and took the photo I could. Her muzzle is grey, her eyes are cloudy, the photo isn't sharp. The artist kept all of that — the grey muzzle, the cloudy eyes, the soft body. It's the most honest portrait I've ever had of her. We lost her in March. This painting is everything now.

"Gorgeous artwork, holiday shipping a week behind."
Took 17 days total — three days past the 10–14 estimate. Ordered Dec 1 hoping to get it before Christmas; it arrived Dec 18, cutting it close. The Celebration portrait of Biscuit's 1st-birthday cake is 5★ — the artist nailed the candle flicker and her excited face. Knocking one star for holiday-season timing. Order earlier next year.

"Frame chipped in transit — replaced fast."
Frame corner arrived chipped from shipping — disappointing because it was a Halloween anniversary gift for my husband. Customer service replaced within 5 days, no hassle. Service team is 5★ but original delivery deducted stars. Final piece (Pepper in her witch hat) is gorgeous and hangs in our hallway now.

"The slightly crooked scarf is the whole point."
Luna's red scarf has tilted every Christmas for six years. I knit it the first Christmas after we adopted her and it has never fit right. The artist kept the tilt. Kept the slow-blink half-asleep eyes. Kept the bokeh tree-light glow without losing her white Samoyed coat. It's the Christmas memory I've been trying to take a clean photo of for six years — now it's framed in Oak-Tone above the fireplace.

"5-year-anniversary art is great, frame feels light."
5-year Gotcha-Day anniversary portrait of Biscuit raising a toast (yes, with a non-alcoholic dog beer in his mouth). The artist did great work — the silly tilt of his head, the foam beard, the candle behind him. But I expected a heavier frame for $109. It feels lighter than other framed canvases I've bought. Still, the art is the point, and the art is solid.

"Mango's 1st birthday — turned chaos into framed art."
Mango is a corgi puppy. Her 1st-birthday party was 14 minutes of pure chaos — cake on the floor, balloons popping, three other dog friends barking. The photo I sent was the only millisecond she stood still, mid-lick, frosting on the side of her mouth. The artist composed the chaos around her — balloons in the bokeh, a hint of confetti underfoot. Felt collaborative, not transactional. Already planning the 2nd-birthday portrait.

"Birthday surprise — she screamed."
Surprise birthday gift for my sister — portrait of her dachshund Pickle in a tiny party hat at his 7th birthday last year. She didn't know I had it commissioned. Unwrapped it on her birthday morning, screamed, then cried. Pickle is now 8 and the portrait hangs above her desk. Two birthdays celebrated in one frame.

"Tree-side cuddle pile, captured."
Christmas Eve photo of our two cats (Bean and Pickle) curled together under the tree — the only night of the year they tolerate each other. Phone shot was dim and grainy, two black cats blending into the shadow. The artist somehow separated them visually without losing the cuddle. Walnut-Tone frame catches our living-room light beautifully.

"New Year's Eve with Cooper — captured the calm."
New Year's Eve at home, just me and Cooper (my husky). I held up a glass of champagne; he had a Greenie. Took a selfie at 11:58pm — both of us looking at each other instead of the camera. The artist kept the soft lamplight, the slightly off-center crop, Cooper's "another year with you" eyes. Hangs above our fireplace year-round now.

"Pumpkin-patch photo finally got the frame it deserves."
Annual pumpkin-patch photo of our golden Rosie — orange-and-white everything, fall light through the trees. Phone shot was over-saturated. The artist tuned the orange wash down so Rosie's coat reads warm cream instead of fake gold. Hangs in our living room from October through November every year.

"Foster-fail 5-year Gotcha-Day. Worth every dollar."
5 years ago we were "just fostering" Bingo. We're not. For our 5-year Gotcha-Day anniversary I commissioned a portrait of him at our first holiday party — paper crown on his head, half-asleep on the kitchen rug, my mother-in-law's hand visible scratching behind his ear. The artist composed it like a small Renaissance painting. Walnut frame, fits perfectly above our entryway console.

"3 dogs, 1 birthday party, 1 frame."
Our 3 rescues share a Gotcha-Day-week party every November (they all came home the same week, three different years). I sent in a photo of the 3 of them standing around the cake. Worth the +$60 multi-pet upgrade — the artist composed them like a family portrait without losing each personality. Walnut-Tone 18×24 above the dining-room table. Hangs there year-round.
